Charkhol

Charkhol is a small Lepcha village situated at a distance of 12 km from Lolegaon and 34 km from Kalimpong in West Bengal. Standing at an altitude of 3500 ft, the village is surrounded by forests of oak, pine, cypress, sal and rhododendron trees. Charkhol is a paradise for birdwatchers as well as those who love butterflies. Various species of birds like Indian robin, ashy prinia, green-backed tit, blue fronted redstart and hill myna are seen at Charkhole. Charkhole also offers its visitors an unique and mind blowing view of the snow capped peaks of the Himalayas. Apart from Mt. Kanchenjunga and its range, one can get a clear mesmerizing view of the tallest mountain in the world, Mt. Everest. The view of the lighted Kalimpong town at night from Charkhol is truly beautiful. At a distance of 1.5 km from Charkhole lies a Shiva temple in a serene and peaceful environment surrounded by oak, pine and rhododendron trees.
